How to Enable Two Factor Authentication on Facebook

How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication on Facebook-: Facebook is the biggest social networking website on Internet Nowadays most of all social networking website provides security of two factor authentication to secure user data. Enabling Two Factor Authentications on Facebook is a great opportunity to review your other security and privacy settings.

What is  Two Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security and makes it harder for attackers to gain access to a person’s devices and online accounts, because knowing the victim’s password alone is not enough to pass the authentication check. Two-factor authentication has long been used to control access to sensitive systems and data, and online services are increasingly introducing 2FA to prevent their users’ data from being accessed by hackers who have stolen a password database or used phishing campaigns to obtain users’ passwords.

Why Facebook Two Factor Authentication is so Important ?

In today’s world of increasing digital crime and internet fraud many people will be highly familiar with the importance of online security, logins, usernames and passwords but if you ask them the question “What is Two Factor Authentication?” the likelihood is they will not know what it is or how it works, even though they may use it every single day.

With standard security procedures (especially online) only requiring a simple username and password it has become increasingly easy for criminals (either in organised gangs or working alone) to gain access to a user’s private data such as personal and financial details and then use that information to commit fraudulent acts, generally of a financial nature.

To turn on text message (SMS) codes with your mobile phone:

  1. Go to your Security Settings
  2. Scroll down to Login Approvals and click Edit

‘ll need to first turn off login approvals before you can do this.
  • If you want to turn off text message security codes and use a different login approvals method instead, you’ll need to have both Code Generator and a security key turned on to do this.
  • Learn more about managing your login approval settings

Note: Facebook does not charge you for using text messages (SMS) for login approvals. However, your mobile provider’s standard rates for sending and receiving messages still apply.

2.Security Key

Security keys are part of an extra security feature called login approvals. If you own a Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) compatible security key and turn on login approvals, you can use it when logging into your Facebook account from a new computer or mobile device.

Using your security key is much like using a key to unlock a door. After entering your password, you can tap your physical security key instead of entering a special security code. Keep in mind security keys only work with certain web browsers and mobile devices, so you’ll also need to have another login approval method, such as a mobile phone or Code Generator.

To add a security key, you’ll need to be using the latest version of Chrome or Opera. Once you’ve done this:

  1. Go to your Security Settings
  2. Scroll down to Login Approvals and click Edit
  3. Go to Security Keys and click Add Key
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions

If you have login approvals turned on and added a security key, the next time you log into Facebook from Chrome or Opera on an unrecognized device you’ll be asked to tap your security key.

If you don’t have your security key or it isn’t working, you can always click “Use a different method” to log in using one of your other login approval methods, such as a mobile phone or Code Generator.

  • Your security key can be used with other websites while also being used for your Facebook account.
  • If you’re having trouble adding or using your security key, try clearing your cache and temporary data. You can also try restarting your computer or mobile device.
  • If you’re running Linux, you’ll need to follow this additional step to use your security key.
  • If you want to stop using text messages (SMS) for login approvals, you can replace it by adding both a security key and Code Generator to your Facebook account.
  • Right now you can’t use a security key to log into the Facebook App for Android.

3. Code Generator

Code Generator is part of an extra security feature called login approvals. If you turn on login approvals, you’ll be asked for a special security code each time you try to log into your Facebook account from a new computer or mobile phone.

Code Generator is a feature in the Facebook app and creates a unique security code every 30 seconds, even if you don’t have access to text messages (SMS) or an internet connection. You can use this code in addition to your password to log in to Facebook. You can also use Code Generator if you ever need to reset your password.

To get your code on your mobile device:

  1. From your Facebook app, tap
  2. Scroll down and tap Code Generator
  3. Use the code to log in to Facebook
