In Today’s information technology era, the Internet is the Heart of Information Technology. today we can do online shopping, booking of ticket, Banging all are possible with a just a click of a mouse. we can see huge growth in information technology in recent few years Internet growth also had resulted growth in cybercrime.

I have already explained in my previous article “How to Prevent Social Engineering and Phishing Attacks” about cybercrime and method to prevent yourself on the Internet to stay safe.

Today the number and sophistication of phishing scams sent out to the consumer are continuing to increase dramatically. while online banking and e-commerce are very safe, but you should be careful about giving out your personal financial information over the Internet. you might get an e-mail like ” you have won the lottery so provide information given below so we can deposit amount in your account” even though you have not purchased any such type of lottery.

How to Identify Fishing Scam Attempts

Phishing scams are becoming increasingly common, and it’s important to know how to identify them to avoid falling victim. Here are some tips on how to identify phishing scam attempts:

  1. Check the sender’s email address. Phishing emails often come from fake or spoofed email addresses. Check the sender’s email address carefully to make sure it’s legitimate and not just a fake version of a trusted organization.
  2. Be wary of urgent or threatening language. Phishing emails often use urgent or threatening language to try to get you to act quickly without thinking. If an email is pressuring you to do something quickly or is making threats, be suspicious.
  3. Don’t click on links in suspicious emails. Phishing emails often include links to fake websites designed to steal your personal information. If an email contains a link and you’re not sure if it’s legitimate, don’t click on it. Instead, hover your mouse over the link to see where it leads. If the URL looks suspicious, don’t click on it.

1. Always share your financial information over secure website and always open website by entering URL in address bar of your web browser. never open a financial website like www.Paypal.com with a link that comes with e-mail. you may use Google Chrome Browser which is secure by default for Everyone.

2. Always ensure that your web browser is up to date and security patches applied and always in touch with web browser website for la latest version of web browser.

3. Always check your bank account ,Credit Card and Debit card statement after equal interval of time to ensure that all transaction are legitimate.

Phishing scam is one of the major cybercrime which a social engineer always prefer because it is directly related to money. with basic awareness about cybercrime can save us from a phishing attack.
